Royal Wedding Thread

The cats want to be fed, so I am up early. Harry and William have arrived, and Meghan and her mother are almost there.

Her evening dress is a Stella McCartney design and is beautiful.

Here is a link to some pictures of it

She kept the lines of both dresses very simple and elegant.

While I liked Bishop Curry, at one point I was ready to throw my shoe at the TV and tell him to stop with the love love love.

The whole wedding was very nice and my only complaint is with the exception of Camilla, all the royals I could see were looking down at their program during the vows. That blew my mind.

The guests with good seats. Notice the Clooneys were in the corner.

George is handsome as ever, and Amal just gorgeous. And this dress is lovely.... except that tail. Reminds me of a penguin.

Oakley, I was getting rather tired of the repetitive verses of "love, love, Love." Sort of expected the choir to start singing "All you need is love. " LOL

And it was rather refreshing NOT to see everyone taking selfies or photos with their phones! Who'd have thought people could get through an event with out their phones!! **gasp**

LOL -- how do you get tired of hearing love, love, love? I mean, isn't that the singular point of it all?

Here's the wedding sermon for anyone interested. I thought it was perfect and seemed to hit the notes that the couple intended to convey.

Since some of you watched the BBC airing, can you confirm my sighting of that fly or large bug that flew into Meghan's face after they were seated, after their vows, and after the boys' choir sang. Meghan was startled but so composed she didn't even swat at it.

Another interesting fact. Today on this day in history, Anne Boleyn was beheaded!

As others said above, it was too long, and saying the word love in every sentence became redundant for me. It was a good sermon though.

writersblock - Thank you for the bbc link. It had the shot I LOVED! That page was really into it! Was he one of the twins of her friend?

Both the wedding and receptions dresses were perfection. Too bad her hair was a miss/mess from the beginning. ETA: I admired that she did not fuss with the strings of escaping hair AT ALL! Much aplomb.

I too was so sad that her mother was left alone. It either speaks to the dysfunction of Meghan's family or the inability of the royal "rules" to accommodate an unusual situation. At least Prince Charles was allowed to walk her down the last half of the aisle. I wish she had called me. I could have given up my weekend to sit with her. I have an awful hat and could have rivaled Amal Clooney's ugly dress.

I guess I'm a skeptic about the potential longevity of the marriage.... And I guess I'm in the extreme minority that thinks she is not very pretty.

    LOL you are funny.

I don't think it was mentioned here, but the soles of Meghan's shoes are the same light blue as the aquamarine ring she's wearing that belonged to Diana. This was when she wore the second dress.

Are there any pictures of the evening reception? I saw the video of the couple in the convertible, are there any of the guests?

Protocol, protocol, protocol. Would it have been that terrible if, after knowing the mom would be seated alone, to make sure someone was seated next to her?

    last modified: 8 years ago

Funny, it didn't seem like Meghan's mom was alone to me. I viewed it through the lens that she was with her daughter and seemed well tended to by Harry's family. She looked beautiful, happy, emotional and serene. It didn't occur to me to feel badly for her at all!

I agree Eld, she seemed abandoned.

Maybe she enjoys being alone and enjoyed having that moment all to herself.

Delilah66, I assumed the strands of hair that escaped the updo were intentional.

    last modified: 8 years ago

But she fixed them (or at least that long one that made her look like she had too many tendons in her neck) when she went out to sign the register, so I don't think so, Delilah.

Many "wedding" shoes have either blue or silver soles, especially $$$ ones. It then becomes the "something blue".

I hope Doria had someone to hang out with afterwards, after all the parties, to talk over the events of the day and laugh and cry a bit.

I finally got a good view of her coat and dress, just lovely.

On the carriage ride, Meghan's drama teacher from high school or grade school was in the crowd with ITV, and Meghan saw her! How sweet.

Was Victoria Beckham headed to a funeral immediately after the wedding?

    last modified: 8 years ago

I agree. For a model who doesn't like to smile because she doesn't like how she looks, a more cheerful outfit would suit her better.

Bpath, I mentioned that too. I can't believe there was not one other relative or long-term good friend that could have accompanied the mom.

What what a story on the cellist and his family. So incredibly talented siblings, too.

Of course, my favorite tweets about Amal and George Clooney were the "Here's the internationally known human rights lawyer and her husband."

What a life those two have. With her international contacts and his Hollywood contacts, my goodness.

I'm curious, because I didn't see it in the coverages I watched (NBC and BBC): did non-British Commonwealth citizens, especially American citizens like the mother of the bride, George Clooney, Oprah, sing God Save the Queen with the rest? What is the protocol?

Watch Victoria Beckham's show "Coming to America" for an idea as to why she doesn't smile. She, and the show, are a hoot.

@bpathome - Maybe if they know the words they would sing God Save the Queen. If I'm in the US (or even here at a sporting event where an American team is playing) I'll sing The Star Spangled Banner out of respect if it's being played.. But I know the words.

I know that Meghan had to sing it, but it was still cool to see her singing it.

Meghan's a British citizen now, so it's appropriate for her to sing it. But I'd be hard-pressed to fault someone from a country that declared its independence from Britain to sing prayers for her "long to reign over us." I'd certainly stand, curtsy, otherwise show respect!

She's not a citizen yet. She has to apply for citizenship (which she probably already has) as well as pass a pretty difficult test.

When I lived in London about a thousand years ago, they always played "God Save the Queen" at the end of social events, like the theatre. We always sang it, why not? I wish her no ill will.

    last modified: 8 years ago

Oh! I thought she already became a citizen! Well, still, it would look good for her to sing the anthem. But I think I'd give other Americans a pass, if they choose not to sing it. I attend heritage events where we sing my heritage's anthem, it extols the beauty of the land. And I sing DH's home country's anthem, but again it's not about someone reigning over me. God Save The Queen is a very handsome and good-to-sing anthem, though, with all those great vowels!

Thinking about the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, they look great, such fine posture!

I certainly hope those of you who are Americans would not curtsy. It is simply not done. This is something I learned when I was a child and here is Miss Manners to explain:

I sing O Canada at a baseball game when a Canadian team is visiting. I think the jumbo-tron gives me all the words. Pretty song.

I was just looking at the photos of the celebs that were at the wedding and Serena Williams looked amazing. I know people are going on and on about Amal Clooney but I think Serena and Pippa Middleton both looked great.

Isn't it unfortunate that women don't get to wear uniforms and thus not have to be scrutinized for their choice of clothing? (tongue in cheek folks - but think about it)

Yes, a bug flew onto her face. From the Sun newspaper:

WHILE we mere mortals would have screamed in shock, Meghan Markle barely flinched when an enormous fly hit her in the face during her wedding ceremony today.

The Suits actress, who married Prince Harry in a very modern service this afternoon, simply wrinkled up her nose and gentled nodded her head to get rid of the pesky bug when it collided with her nose.

Meghan wore small Cartier diamond earrings and a Cartier diamond bracelet. The bracelet is a new Cartier design and costs $155,000. When she changed into her dress for the reception, she wore the diamond earrings that matched the bracelet (but took off the bracelet). Those diamond earrings cost $55,000. The bracelet and matching earrings may have been a gift from Prince Charles. She also wore Diana's large square-cut aquamarine ring with diamonds. Diana had the ring custom made after her divorce when she was no longer wearing her sapphire engagement ring. The aquamarine ring is now worth $100,000.

Love the aquamarine. Glad to see Kate and Meghan have Diana's old rings. They should be enjoyed and worn, not just sit in a vault somewhere. The cost doesn't bother me. If you have the money, buy it.

I thought it was just lovely! Everything! Her dress was perfection, gorgeous natural make up, adoring, handsome groom, proud mama, flowers for days, glorious sunny day...and Bishop Curry!! They keep saying he is from Chicago...but he lives in NC and before becoming the head of the entire Episcopal church in the US, he was the bishop for NC!! He confirmed my son! We LOVED every time he visited our parish...all his sermons are that exciting. You never get sleepy when he preaches! :)

Honestly, the only thing I didn’t care for were the black Page boy outfits...seemed a harsh color for children. But that’s it! Loved everything else!

I taped and then watched the entire wedding. Loved every moment.

i have always been curious of their finances. Megan must now need a pretty big wardrobe, where does the money come from.?

Nini, how lovely that your family has that connection with Bishop Curry. I would love to be able to hear him speak in person.

nini804, the black pageboy outfits were made to represent the Blues and Royals household cavalry uniform that William and Harry wore.

Lyban, when Diana died, her estate was worth about $25 million after taxes. William and Harry have since inherited the estate. I read that Meghan had $5 million.

    Lucy,

thanks for that very informative article. I never realized they were so wealthy in their own names.

I didn't watch, but you couldn't turn the tv on all weekend (or again this morning on TODAY - enough is enough LOL) or go on-line without seeing/hearing about the wedding. I thought the tiara and veil lovely but did not care for the wedding dress. I liked the reception dress much better and Harry in the tux was quite dashing.

I loved how gentle Harry was when he lifted Meghan's veil.

Did you know more people watched their wedding than Diana/Charles and William/Kate's?

Neither were afraid to show their love in front of the world, that's what made it special for me.

IdaClaire...if there were more people who could preach like Bishop Curry...church attendance would go WAY up!! He’s electric and definitely walks the walk.
