What's not to love? Digested vegetarian diet. If you can stand the smell, giddy up!

Horse manure is less acidic than cow manure, and as such, many more of the ingested seeds are passed through in a viable state. This translates into major weeds. That said, most of what a horse eats likes a lot of sun, and hostas are typically grown in shady places, so maybe the weeds won't be so bad. The manure is super high in nitrogen, so it is like steroids for leafy plants (such as hostas). Your hostas look super happy.

with any type of manure ... its best to have it aged.. or composted for a year or two ... it can be an issue of the nitrogen.. or urea .... and breaking that down a bit ....

its not really a question of it being dry ... other than its easier to work with ...

i once got a load [???] of sheep 'nure .... heck.. everything in the garden ended up like 3 feet taller than is was supposed to be.. lol ...

and of course.. its all about how much you put on ... a light surface application is one thing... it probably wont hurt anything.. but if you spread 3 inches over everything.. well.. thats another thing ..
