Rug and possible side table

Looking to replace rug with a lighter neutral color, such as ivory. Open to pattern. Space seems a bit dark to me.

Also, thinking of adding a small side table between the two chairs for extra table space. Any ideas on what would work best here? Would love to warm up the space a bit.

    Rug wise,do you want something traditional (as above or similar),on trend (overdyed and/or distressed for example),or simply contemporary? How much pile? I agree that a table would be good between the chairs. Because there is so much metal in the space,just plunking in some wood wouldn't work for me. But a metal and wood combo or wood and stone combo could.
