Emberglow is supposed to be similar to Lucifer, so more red than orange. The named crocosmia are generally much more restrained than those called Montbretia. They need water to grow well, so that will keep them in check. I have never had any issues with them seeding around, they do make large clumps over time.

Thank you for your reply Chadinlg! That's good to know about the color being closer to red. I might look for a different variety that is more orange, I didn't realize how many varieties of crocosmia there are! I was planning on putting it on a slope that will only get 1- 2x/week irrigation and it's pretty dry here otherwise so it becoming invasive doesn't sound like an issue. Thanks again!

If you want a really orange crocosmia, look for 'Emily McKenzie' - very open (less tubular) flowers of a deep orange with a darker red center. Stunning!!

And I agree that named forms tend not to be at all aggressive or invasive compared to the old fashioned montbretia. But if happily sited, they will enlarge to form a good sized colony!!

Oooh! That variety sounds perfect! I'll definitely check it out. So far I have a lot of purple on my slope, and I think the orange will really warm it up more. Thanks Gardengal!
