I agree with @silviakunst, it is difficult to offer constructive ideas (it sounds like you have a lot going on) without seeing more of your kitchen.

If you are really not sure, you might want to consult with a kitchen designer who can put all the pieces together for you. Sounds like a big investment and you want to get it right the first time. But be sure you are consulting with a KD and not someone who wants to sell you cabinets.

you are updating the counters on this small portion of cabinets? you're not getting new base cabinets? so it's this and the other dark piece? lets see the entire kitchen from further back.

you could get those small cabinets replace w/something much better (even raw wood and paint them yourself) and do a remnant piece of granite or quartz for next to nothing.

look in pre fab counters. a 6' piece is all you would need. then maybe a butcher block for that other piece.

if you just want to paint, try these shades.

you can also trim out your doors with 1x2 trim pieces and paint.

you have a very small space and quite a bit of clutter. can you take down everything from the fridge and do a wall somewhere where you can hang all the photos and stuff?

I like traditional look that is modern. I'm not sure if that is confusing. Here is a kitchen I like. This is someone in my condo who kept the original cabinets. I like the style but would choose a different hardware for the island and a lighter floor. I guess I could paint the island white as well. Unsure about that.

I used different options. In my experience and opinion I can say that the best color of the work surface is light ( white) with the color of dark tones of furniture. On the bright surface we can see better. Even the dining table is served with a light tablecloth, so that you can see the food first, not the table..My opinion.
