Garage Floor and Cabinets

We are building a new house and I am into the garage. Any suggestions on durable garage floor covering like epoxy? Any experience with "Seamless Systems"? Suggestion on the best working cabinets (car tools). Best light arrangements and types?

Snap On or Mac for mid grade tools and boxes, that most homeowners would consider high grade. Kennedy and Gerstner for a machinist box. Waterloo and Lista makes for decent but not top notch boxes too. Don’t do anything you can find in a box store.

Commercial grade epoxy for the floors. Check local installers. They should be in the 10-15K range for a two car after the prep and professional application. Less than commercial grade with meh prep usually runs 6-9K. DIY, usually runs 2-4K, but only works if your slab is really really good, and you have a local source that will sell to you, and you don’t mind 2 days in a respirator.

This is where a couple of extra bucks to the concrete finishers with an ice chest of water will be money well spent. Not just for your smooth garage floor either.

It all depends upon what you use the garage for. Mine is used to park cars inside. A lot of people use their garages as just a place to store all their “stuff”... there are companies that specialize in garage organizing & design & installation of cabinets where I live. The garages I’ve seen in friends & relatives who’ve had the work done by these companies look great.

I use my garage for car storage and some work, such as changing brakes. That mean some chemical resistance is needed.As to the cabinetry it should be good for some chemicals and then a tool box and work bench.

I have an epoxy garage floor. Love it. I have had it for about 10 years. Still looks great. Very easy cleanup

depending on your type of construction, one thing that drives me nuts is the foam or plastic expansion strips where the garage slab meets the wall. In our garage, that area was a magnet for crud. I used a quartz aggregate product in the garage for the daily drivers, and the beauty of it is that it can be used to cove the corners and then spread up the wall like stucco (but smoother).

The product provides a great amount of grip and wears like iron. Ours is over 10 years old, 7700 pound truck parks on it daily. It's still perfect.

I'd simply light with some LED shop lights.

Tool storage is personal. I would not go with the "garage fitment" companies - I'd just get a few rolling tool boxes (and really, Craftmen / Kobalt are fine, IMO) and keep things flexible.

I've also had IKEA cabinets in my garage for bulk time storage and dog leashes, etc - 10+ years on those too - they still look new.

Garage recently completed (Spartacote). Do the garage before moving in, as the smell takes awhile to go away. This garage floor turned out fantastic, durable, easy to clean and the entire garage now looks beautiful with my finished walls as well. Also, I had my plain light bulb replaced with a LED light (seen in bottom photo).

2 years after installation of my garage floor and using that garage to do a wide variety of work on the cars it still looks and works great. Stains can usually be cleaned easily including paint overspray.
