Could it use alittle more color? Sure but why change it now?

I agree with all those above. Clean and decluttered is always attractive to a buyer. Your house is lovely as is.

Do you have a realtor to give you advice on your local market? I am not a realtor, but was house shopping within the last few months. In my opinion your house looks great exactly as it is. Yes your decor is traditional, but the fireplace and cabinetry is also traditional so it suits the room. You definitely do not need to paint everything gray and white just to appeal to buyers.

When we were selling our house, our realtor advised the following:

• de-clutter and de-personalize (remove family photos, etc)
• use existing furniture to highlight the use of the room
• add some color and life with pillows and plants

Looking at your rooms, you have already done all of that. Your home is going to show well and if priced properly should sell easily. You do not need to invest in changing the style too meet current trends.

One thing you could do would be to emphasize the square footage/floor space. Do that by eliminating the too small rug under the dining table. When you buy a new rug for your new home, be sure it is at least 3-4 feet bigger than the table on every side if you have room. That leaves 24" for chairs to be pulled out and sat in, plus a bit more rug. You don't want it to run into baseboards or furniture that is against the walls though, and you don't want your chairs to fall off of it when in use. I would remove the runner and place mats and add a pair of candlesticks with the centerpiece. Also, since your two chairs have access to the round table, center the coffee table/bench with the firebox opening and pull the sofa within 18" or less of it so those at the sofa have a place to put their drink, etc. I still see some family photos that need to be eliminated. Otherwise, it is fine.

It's lovely as is and other than decluttering (not that it's really cluttered at all for daily living, but selling is different -- just edit out personalized items, think a bit sparse). I like the blue and green pillows in your last photo. Just use those and put the others up. Men often don't like too many throw pillows and you want them to have a positive response as well.

I would suggest a few changes to help give a bit of updating. Remove dining rug. Remove excess chairs. Consider changing light fixture to more modern look. Remove items from mantel and change out art. That is too small for the space and is heavy looking. Remove personal items from built-ins. There appears to be some interesting art in niche to left in photo of living room. Try layering them on mantel. A couple cream throws for the green chairs to help brighten things up. Make a new cream cover for the ottoman and put a black lacquered tray with small accessory. This fixture is on sale. It has traditional lines, but beads are really popular and give updated look. Could the sofa be moved to face fireplace with a chair on either side. That might balance room more with tall fireplace wall. Good luck. Pricing will be key for quick sale.
