Bathroom window on deck

last modified: 8 years ago

My husband and I are building a tiny house. I’ve asked a couple of other design dilemma questions on here before and got a lot of great suggestions. Here’s another;

The longer window on the right is the kitchen window, while the smaller window on the left is the bathroom window. I purposely stopped the porch from coming any further down that way because I didn’t want a porch under those two windows, especially the bathroom window. The top of the porch would only be 5 feet below the window. Well, now my husband is wanting to continue a deck down to the end of the house so it will make it easier for him to set up a ladder and clean the gutters. Asking him to not climb up there and just have the gutters cleaned professionally, or installing leaf guards isn’t going to happen. That’s just not how he rolls. I know I could put a curtain over the bathroom window, but now I feel like I could never open the window while anyone is on the back deck.

Short of spray painting the outline of a box on that corner of the deck with the words, “Keep out of this area,” what else can I do? I’m wondering if I could build a little storage corner, like a small closet type thing, to keep people out of that corner and out from in front of the bathroom window. He would still have to be able to set up a ladder over it to clean the gutters. Bottom line; A person 5 feet tall will be able to see straight in the bathroom window. Thanks
