You would have a hard time convincing me that there is a much more gorgeous rose out there than Wollerton Old Hall. This one takes the cake for me. You know you have a problem when upon discovering it starting its first flush you get butterflies in your stomach haha

Anothet thing I'm pleased with is how even with its light coloration, it has never seemed to be bothered by thrips. Now rose slugs on the other hand...

I love wollerton !! Glowing orbs of goodness!! Yours looks so happy . Also I find it so interesting that we are so far apart distance wise and a zone , but mine also just started to bloom.

That is crazy Jen!! I would have thought yours would already have been blooming! It's sometimes hard to capture in photo because it literally glows as you said! This year the blooms are almost double in size to its first year..and far more petals. Makes me sad to be leaving it behind in a few months.

Agreed. I think it might be prettier than Jude. It’s also staying nicely in a vase as a cut flower.

Gorgeous photos. Mine started blooming early May.

I wonder why thrips dont like WOH. I thought perhaps thrips dont like anise fragrance, but I also have Mme Anisette which smells almost identical to me and the thrips love her.

I love how shade tolerant WOH is. I wish the blush center lasted a bit longer.

Totoro, is that a Rooguchi with your WOH? I just love those colors together. I was going to do the same combination, but was afraid the clematis would overwhelm the rose, which is only a year old. I put my Rooguchi between Graham Thomas and Bathsheba.

Yes it is Rooguchi. No it is not so dense like Jackmanii. Blooms are sparse but so dainty.

Your location betweeen GT and B sounds beautiful. Hope you can get some overlap in the bloom Times.

The blue clematis I love best for growing among the roses is H.F. Porter (on the right, with no roses). The blooms are very large, a lovely wedgewood blue like the color of periwinkle or the chickory flowers that grow on the roadside with Queen Anne’s lace.
The Porter flower looks so pretty with the roses that I often cut a portion of the vine to put in a vase of roses!
