You already have a beautifully landscaped home. Unless you need the fence (for a pet or something) I would say no fence.

If you must do something, I'd do a low hedge, either a species that flowers or evergreen with flowering vines growing through it.

Not opposed to the fence per se, but the details would matter. In the pictures, I don't care for the stone structure adjacent to the drive & the fence would be set back from the curb. Neither care for the break in fence near the light pole. The plants themselves, with all the different shapes and sizes seem very "busy."

I also accidentally voted for the first one. I think it would look better without any fence.

Of course life together is about compromise and sacrifice, and this is one of those yes or no decisions where no compromise is possible. So sacrifice it is, for one of you!

Is he concerned about kids chasing balls into the street or teenagers driving on the lawn? Or is simply that he wants a little something more? Do you think if you showed him some pictures of beautiful, fenceless front yards with landscaping that provides a bit of privacy from the road he might be open to spending your resources on that instead?

No fence. Yes, there would be too much going on. It would only detract from your home’s appearance.

It looks like you could create a couple of these islands in your yard, near the street side approximately where the corner of the fence on the left would be (of course check about clearances for the light pole) and on the right side of the driveway. They would create a bit of seperation from the street while leaving the yard open and inviting. You could work on them over a couple of seasons if necessary.

Definitely NO to a picket fence at the edge of the road. You might be able to do a low, drylaid stone wall a bit back from the road if you want a decorative edging that blends in better.

I have a really lovely white wooden fence. It enhances my house, just as the one you've proposed does yours. My fence is 20 years old. Wooden fences last 20-25 years. They are very expensive to paint and even more expensive to replace. So, my enthusiasm for white wooden fences has fallen.

If you are going to do it, don't leave gaps. They look funny.

I agree no to the fence-I agree fences make good neighbors-but if you do not have an issue why not let your lovely yard stand on it's own!

I only think good fences make good neighbours when there is livestock involved. Otherwise, good neighbours make good neighbours!
