Do I have to kill 2?

I planted 3 seeds in a pot and got 3 seedlings. I've let them grow and now I'm supposed to trim them out but I hate killing a good seedling. These three all look good, only difference I see is one doesn't have its first leaves and I can probably bury the stem deeper. I still hate killing 2 good seedlings when they are doing so well. I'm going to be planting in containers and most of my tomatoes will be upside down but I do have one huge container, bigger than the pails you buy at HomeDepot. Could I cut 1 and put 2 in the container or are they too close to each other to thrive?
