Art above the arch?

The previous owner hung a tapestry above the opening from the great room into the foyer. The lights are even installed to highlight the space where the tapestry used to be. We found a large print that we liked but we were worried that a) it would be wasted so far above eye level and b) it would draw attention to the asymmetry of the opening. (The brown rectangles are the coverings got built in speakers. 1970s surround sound.)

Agree, nothing up there. Paint the speakers same color as wall.

The first thing you need to do is paint those beams and ceiling white. Then anything you put there above the archway will look great. Do you need those speakers? If not remove and patch.

Listen to your instincts. Just because there is a blank space, you don't need to fill it. :). And yes, if you don't use the speakers get rid of them.

No art wasted that high, change speaker covers to white cloth or paint.

Remove the speakers and replace the clock on the right side of the wall with artwork that plays up your pinkish chairs. Put nothing above the arch.

No art. Why don’t give some thought to trimming out the opening between living room and entranceway in same finish as whatever you do with the beams to unite both spaces? Is it possible to run electrical and get a nice looking chandelier to hang in the living room ? It would draw attention away from the “dead space” and bring the focus to the seating area of the room.

Paint the speaker covers the color of the wall. Art is not necessary above the opening.

I would not hang anything up there, there is no reason to draw your eye to that area. But I would fix that opening so that it is symmetrical. Paint the speaker covers to match the walls or drywall over the openings. You need to paint the ceiling a lighter color and leave the beams dark.

Interesting and fun space!

1. No art.

2. Chandelier--large! The large room can handle a large chandelier--do not size based on table, but on room. If electrical not an option, look for candle options and use remote controlled battery operated.

3. Speakers: If used, paint trim same as wall and change out the speaker fabric to close match. If not using, remove and drywall patch. With remote speakers etc, probably no need for these.

4. I would remove two of the six chairs around table. Looks very crowded. I'd move the bar to open wall and place chair on each side--- try to center on wall so bar is centered on table.

About wallpapering that wall instead! the speakers are a plus to your house they can be made less noticeable.

Looking at the chairs perhaps a wall paper that would compliment would be it ,here is an idea of what I have in mind , try to work with colours for the wall and make it the feature .

An amazing chandelier and remove the clock replace with a piece of art with at least a touch of the pink for sure , remove the speakers or get covers that match the walls. I like the beams but IMO the ceiling needs to be either the same as the walls or white

If you like the beams, you can leave them as-is. I would paint all the walls and the ceiling the same light color. Remove or paint the speakers to match the walls, and hang one piece of art to the right of the opening.
