Does the patio go right up to the house? If so how could you plant something there on a trellis?

If you could plant in the ground, I think star jasmine would make it.

It would not have to be a trellis but could be some other hedge type plant but needs to be planted in the ground. Trellises eventually rot and or fall over.

Good points Cori Ann. What was the structure called? How could I look up something like that? Btw I'm fine with that - it's just I can't find anything like that and don't know what keywords to use. I was just going to invent something lol. Do you know what it's called at Costco?

Slowjane maybe try looking up something like a “pergola?” There are so many terms for structures I get their names mixed up too, so I totally understand. Lowe’s or Home Depot may have something too, I just know about the Costco one since my friend was very happy with the quality. :-)

You could put bougainvillea against the house on a trellis. You'd just have to remove some of the bricks to plant it.
