I don't know where it's growing wild, in Oklahoma. But I have seen a few patches in some people's yards in the Tahlequah area.

This is such a coincidence. I am not in OK but my friend just showed me her " river cane"

She was trying to sell it at market.

I play the oboe. This particular type of cane is a little different from river cane. Almost all cane used by double reed instruments comes out of Europe (usually France). I actually harvested some from Cleveland county about 25 years ago when I still played at OU. My professor cured the cane and we eventually got some really good reeds out of it. It was extremely durable!

There's quite a bit planted in the town that's near Bustanii Gardens (Stillwater), it's easy to find in early winter when the canes are bare. Sometimes almost groves of it.
