I must have missed a bunch of seeds last summer since I noticed two sprouts coming up this week. The hot and humid must have brought them along.

Thats unusual...I don't recall any seeds growing naturally quite soon...they can sit underground forever...you sure it isnt a small piece of a rhizome...I'll take your word but I would dig to be curious

I'm from New Orleans and as a kid my Grams had cannas along the side and in front the house and all the rhizomes were dug up over 2 decades ago and I know for a fact seeds are still in that dirt and our soil is so rich you can just throw things on the ground and it will grow and to this day with all the rain and storms etc no cannas ever came back up...matter or fact just for experimental purposes I'm going to try to grow some naturally in a pot without scarifying them just to see how long it takes I'm going to date it and put it in my greenhouse and wait for rain and every time it rains I'm going to water it and see what the outcome is...

I wasn’t expecting seedlings so the first was weeded out! When I saw the seed at the end of the shoot I realized what had happened and knew what the next was. It will be interesting to watch them grow since the banana which was supposed to fill that spot died last winter.
