Regarding the chair height, I used to try to use that antique rocker that is in my bedroom in the living room. But, it's a really tall chair and it never really worked out with the other furniture. I have two wing chairs in my living room now. They aren't an exact pair but the height is the same and the upholstery is the same. Mine are side by side with a table in between. I'm assuming you'd place another chair across from the wing chair. It might work with that configuration. I'd hunt for Houzz examples and see how you feel about it.

Chair height. Design is a combination of consistency and variety. Too much of one or the other can really throw things off.

A good rule is to start off with consistency. As Ann described above, she used 2 chairs of the same height to bring in consistency.

If you were to buy the 2 Pier One chairs, for example, and then throw in the wing chair as a "kicker" chair, I don't see that as a problem. But three different furniture pieces, when none has a consistency, to me doesn't work.

That is a significant difference between the two chairs. Is there anyway you could get another wing back chair.
or as cdrdesign suggested purchase two of the Pier One chairs with the wing back chair.

I can look for another wingback that is 43" high. Or I can purchase two new chairs and move the wingback to another room. I like the seersucker. I also really like berchere. These are stunners! Could they work? Maybe in a different colour?

I love the above chairs, they are a more timeless and classic design, though I suspect not inexpensive. I can see that you are at heart a traditionalist. I think your room is most successful when you stick to that and add only a few touches with a more modern bent, i.e. your desk with the wonderful monk print above. The white garden stool I posted way above is the Palmer Stool from Z Galleries.

Yes, I also like the above chairs. I think you are better off buying a pair and using the wing-back chair elsewhere.

I like the berchere. I agree that a matching pair of chairs in the room is the very best way to go. I also very much like the garden stool idea for your room. There was a Houzz article just a few days ago about using multiple small tables (2 or 3) for a coffee table. Did you happen to see it? I think a couple garden stools would be terrific as a coffee table for your room. I remember those blue ones from West Elm, but they disappeared within an hour after I saw them. That was weird.

leelee - I love, love, love the PB Tanner tables (your second picture). I recently bought the round side table and that table is just perfect. That whole Tanner line is just simple, classic and beautiful!

If you are going to group stools together, I would suggest buying some square ottomans form maybe Target, and placing them together so that they actually look like one large ottoman.

You could later use them as separate ottomans.

I would decide on what chairs you are going to buy first, before deciding on an ottoman.

Everything is great. Do not go past perfect. The navy sofa pillows are a beautiful contrast. And, do not make them smaller. Also, your light filtering blinds are perfect, functional, elegant and simple. You do not need curtains or drapes!

Coffee table. Do you think you could use something a bit larger?

Didn't see the fireplace. It's not a focal point, is it?

Did you consider mounting the flat screen above the fire place, and orienting your seating and rug to it as a focal point.

You have lovely, almost loft like space. You could experiment with diagonal placements of rug and seating. Very dynamic.

I have pointed out that the tv competes with fireplace. IMO, tv needs to be moved.

I think you're off to a great start! It all takes time and it will fall all together!

Yes! I like the idea of 2-3 stools for a coffee table. I think my favorite might be the West Elm Bentwood followed by the Crate and Barrel Samar. I didn't check heights, are they close to 18" which is about right for coffee table height?

I'm afraid with your deep overstuffed couch, two stools as a coffee table will not be proportionate. They will not hold much, and are worthless if you ever want to prop your feet up. Garden stools make better side tables for an occasional chair or accent pieces.

I found these bergere chairs. There are a couple of choices: beige linen or charcoal/brown linen, and light or dark wood. What do you think? Would any of these work?

Those chairs are great! You could do the light linen and the dark wood, which would echo your kitchen table.

Would you place a garden stool between them? Also.. could I place two stools across from the chairs? With a coffee table between them?

I would get the chairs in and see how you like them. A garden stool might be too small for the size of them. They look to be substantial chairs. I would take it a step at a time.

The begere chairs are 37" high so about 6'" lower than the wingback. Do you think they are the right scale for the room?

Any chance you could do a rough sketch of the furniture arrangement you have in mind, take a picture of the rough sketch and post it? Also, how tall is the sofa?

If 6" lower than wingback, they will work.

I would do the lighter upholstery. If not, the chairs are going to match the tv, which is not something you want to highlight.

By the way, the tv would look much better if it were housed in an entertainment center. It doesn't have to be elaborate. Walmart has some you put together yourself that don't look bad.

I'm told these are the two colour options for fabric. I could look around a little more though at other bergere chairs. We just found out today we are moving next month. I will post pictures soon to get your input on what will work in the new space. So excited!

Thanks. We are getting very excited! The old owners had art above their fireplace. They put their tv in the basement. We have two tvs.. so not sure whether to keep one in the living room or not. The problem with putting the tv above the fireplace, and the sofa facing it.. is that the sofa would protrude past the wall. Not the end of the world, but a consideration.

Oh, man. I was just getting comfortable here. Does the new place have a barn door? If not, can we add one?

If you can get samples of the two fabrics that would be helpful. The dark is listed as charcoal brown, I'd need to see just how brown, and the undertone of the beige as well. You have time to think about it.
