Monday's Marvels

I'm enjoying a day of no rain, cooler temps and little humidity. It's a good day for planting and weeding.

Soul Catcher - This one started blooming as I was leaving last summer for what would be 21 straight days in Indy. So I only saw one bloom last year - and it was a bad bloom. Today's blooms were quite nice. The plant multiplied and overwintered well. The scapes are about 20 inches tall. The blooms open late in the morning.

Ethel Buccola with triplets. This one is almost at registered height.

Triple Delight - I love this bloom! I just wish those other four fans would scape. I need a whole clump of these.

Ice Cream Emperor - Short scapes, lost fans over the winter.

Stealth Bomber - one tall scape, the rest are short.

Julie Newmar - It's good to see this one again. Deer ate all the buds last year, and the year before something caused most of buds to decay and fall off. It's growing in area with lots of weed and grass. I think I will move it to a better spot.

Soul Catcher is a beauty with that eye. So pretty. And I see why you do indeed like Triple Delight. Perhaps your other fans will surprise you with later scapes. After my Sabine Baur escapade, I have begun looking at my lists (old and new) to see what others I might have missed. I have Ethel Buccola on my new list-now if I can just remember where I put her. Yours looks good and clean. And I once had Julie Newmar but I think the jungle ate her in the jungle bed. Oh me, I really only need a small space! That would limit me for sure, I think. Nice blooms and photos today, Debra.

Every one is a beauty, Debra. Not a dud in the bunch. Ice Cream Emporer is really gorgeous, and Ethel Bucola is so pretty with triplets, Soul Catcher is gorgeous...who doesn't love Stealth Bomber? Julie Newmar is always a beauty...hard to choose one.

Kate - Too bad you lost Julie to the jungle. My corner area where she's planted is plagued with three kinds of vines that I can't seem to eradicate. So it's quite the jungle too.

Ice Cream Emperor is about to leave the garden. One scape after it was planted in the spring of 2014. I have daylilies planted last fall that are showing three scapes.

Dick - Ice Cream Emperor does not like winter. I had a whole clump of it at one time (7-9 fans). But after a bad winter a few years ago, it lost fans down to three and never regained them. I moved it to a more sheltered spot, but it's still puny and only three fans.

All are beautiful, but Soul Catcher is amazing. I love the edge and the eye. I also love the triangular eye on Triple Delight.

Every one is nice, I thought the first one would be my favorite, but I really like the look of Ethel buccola, then Triple Delight looks really good. Good thing you said Ice Cream Emperor does not do well for you, I was admiring that one too.
