I think it's sweet that all the blocks were made by our group. What a great quilt to send. I still have the country log cabin blocks I won in one of the Lottos. I personally think that any color can be for a baby. More and more parents are not going with the traditional pastels anymore. My cousin did her nursery in antique cars. She figured he would like it longer.

I read recently somewhere (might have been here) that people want "boy" colors for boys, not pastels. Those blocks would certainly work for that. Put an off white/beige flannel back on it and you have what the parents are wanting these days.

It would make a great floor quilt.

I think those blocks would be fine for a child's quilt, Bev. An alternative to the white/beige backing would be a flannel with animals on it. They often come in shades of brown and would definitely be good for a child. I've seen minky with animal paw prints in brown too.

Would you still use batting if you used a flannel backing, or would it be warm enough? I was thinking of going with a flannel batting. I like the animal print idea for the backing as well.

I have never made a quilt without batting, even when I use minky, but then I live in Minnesota. I've always been afraid that if there's a lot of white in the quilt, the backing might show through without batting. I know that some quilters in the southern climes leave the batting out when using flannel. I think you could go either way.

That quilt would grace any room, especially a baby's room. The green, purple, lavender are delicious!

Winters are cold here in TN, so we use batting in every quilt. I have heard of people South of here making them with either flannel batting or none at all.
