Aww, so sorry that it is lagging but I hope it recoups in the pot. I lost my Cherish - it was lovely last year but a no show this year. Pandora's Box barely survived...in same pot.

Both Cherish and Pandora's Box are very picky growers. Cameo is also kind of a stinker. Such a shame, all are very nice little minis, if they survive. My Cameo is in a special slightly raised bed with a small flock of Kikufurin Ko Mame that are also quite small, but grow well, and Cameo is doing okay, or at least not dying. PB is in a weird spot quite crowded by a row of Kinakofu Otome, and seems happy there. Cherish perished in my garden, twice.

It looks like it has a long road to recovery. Sorry.

I was surprised to see it come up this year. But it did. I am hoping if it's in the pot, I can baby it for a while until it puts on some decent growth before trying to put it into my mini bed.

Dhaven, you have been my "mini" inspiration. So I guess, in a way, it makes me feel better that you have also had trouble with Cherish.

Maybe I should look for something similar but a bit hardier.

I'll keep you all posted on its progress in the pot.

As I look at my own photo, this little guy is lucky I didn't pull him out thinking he was a weed. You know you're a gardener when you bother trying to save something so very small. It's either eternal optimism or that weird sense of personal challenge. :-)

A collector of minis and small told me to use only very small pots if they have a problem, otherwise they are too wet and that kills them for sure. I had a problem with Snow Mouse and after I put it in a small pot as he advised it came back. Small pot means this for him...6cm x 6 cm...it had been in the pot on the right before and was kind of lost in there...

Others also told me to keep small and mini much drier than the bigger ones and use a very good mix of potting media to avoid getting too wet...I`m trying my best and hope all the small ones I got this year will survive in my garden...

Got Cherish from a friend and would hate to loose it...

Thanks for sharing your trouble with Cherish, I will be checking it frequently, just got one this year. I am growing my minies in big tubs so they are elevated. So far all came thru overwinter, but Frosted mini hearts had a bit of trouble I relocated it to higher ground and added some nutrition. Cameo has been a stinker, did overwinter in a ground but barely grew...I wonder if tight potting is the answer.

Lindalana, tight potting is the answer, in my opinion (and a raised crown with some roots showing was a home grower’s advice). No problems in ground but minis and me aren’t happy in pots for too long.

Karin, thank you thank you! I am going to repot Cherish tomorrow in a smaller pot. I also potted Baby Bunting because it looked like it could disappear as well. I will put it in a smaller pot as well.

I made my own soil in the 5-1-1 style. I am hoping that will work.

Because Jo mentions the raised roots...that's something I also noted when I potted and planted the small ones. They all seem to lift out of the ground by themselves as if they want to have a little air between the roots. My Platinum Tiara spent the whole winter like this and wasn't bothered at all and when I looked at my newly potted Paradise Puppet it was nearly 1 cm out of the soil...

I haven’t tried Cherish yet, hope yours survives. I do have Pandoras Box, haven’t had trouble growing it. Squirrels pulled it out of its pot.

The climate here is very dry. Anything potted in very small container, like the 6cm x 6cm will probably need to be watered twice daily. I repotted Cherish in the little pot and I will keep it on my deck in the shady area and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get too dry.

Maybe I should throw it out on the driveway first! Haha...Ken!

I will look for Pandora's Box and if I can't find it locally (which is probably the case), I will order one later in the summer.

I stand corrected, Cherish did survive from last year and is doing well...Pinani splash and Frosted mini hearts did ended in their own personal pots... I think it is also relates to age and wellness of TC start we get...Pinani splash arrived looking funky and got placed in a tub with others, is only one that was not growing and was rotting roots..

So it got personal pot

Otoh, Royal Tiara, which overwintered ingound in its own small pot is bustling with life...must be something about small space

lindalana, I absolutely love your tub of minis with the river rocks and fence! Is that first picture Cherish? If so, no wonder I bought it! It's so sweet!

To console myself, I bought Mighty Mouse at a big box store. I walked by it and it jumped in my cart! I am leaving it in its small pot for the summer and just burying it in a larger planter with some gnome accessories.

I love all these photos of the little guys! I have yet to create a planned, new mini space/planting with a piece of driftwood previously used as a Christmas centrepiece. I keep changing things up and when my minis object, into the ground they go....... until I move them again. So far, BME is the toughest mini around here, next Tiny Tears and Hydon Sunset and Kifukurin Otome. Mini Skirt was planted last fall and is looking pretty good.

Minis take up so little room - if I ever move (apt. or condo) and can't take my hostas due to lack of land, I will definitely buy up every mini I can find and have a "balcony mini hosta garden"! Can you imagine how sweet that be??? :D

If you pot up minis, consider bottom watering. Some of the problems with minis in containers comes from top watering, which can easily throw the planting medium onto the plant, or wash it up next to the plant. leaving it deeper than it should be. To bottom water small pots, use a saucer or tray or anything that holds water. Add half an inch of water to the saucer, then check in about 15 minutes to see if it's all soaked in. If not, pour the remaining water from the saucer. If it has all soaked in, give it another half inch and check again in 15 minutes.

Thanks, dhaven. I actually thought about bottom-watering Cherish. But I wasn't sure. I will probably try it. I've been bottom-watering the seedlings that were given to me by sunnywood. It's super dry in Colorado right now.
