Those pawpaws look great! What variety is it? I've been looking to get a couple pawpaw trees. I'm interested in growing kiwi too.

I didn't know it was possible to grow delphiniums like that around here. Gorgeous!

Karen - I struggle to get Delphinium seeds to sprout so I usually just buy seedlings when I can find them. If you can find them around Thanksgiving time and plant them before winter gets really cold you can have super tall Delphiniums by June. These were planted the first week of March and babied from then on. They are only annuals around here. The best ones I've ever grown were purchased in Charleston SC in November (they use them as winter annuals down there). I just don't get down there as much nowadays.

Dave - none of my pawpaws are named varieties but they all are seedlings from named varieties. Each one is different. The one in the photo has super large fruit and a lot of them - it is also the closest to the septic system leach field. I have picked three fruit from the same branch off the same tree and they all had different flavor - so I think it is the time of harvest and how fruit is managed after harvest that gives the super mango-ey flavor and NOT the variety.

How is the mango doing? I had a fungus problem and no fruit set on mine. I have never tasted a Paw Paw, but if there is a hint of mango, I may have to grow some! Beautiful Delphiniums.

morningloree - I thinned the fruit. I read somewhere that you are supposed to snip off the flowers the first time it blooms to get the roots stronger and the tree bigger before you allow it to actually fruit. Since I'm not so sure I can keep this thing through the winter I thought I would just let it do its thang (I normally only keep the greenhouse above freezing and mangoes like it pretty warm).

Nice! I lived in a borderline zone in FL and only covered them with frost cloth when it got below forty degrees. I had two in the ground that did fine that way. After I moved, I over wintered the one I brought to NC in the living room. The practice of overwintering large plants in the house is frowned upon by the establishment here, so it will have to go in the greenhouse this winter. Some people trim them to keep them manageable sizes.
