Tobacco budworm

I gave up years ago on geraniums and petunias because they always were decimated by caterpillars by late summer. This year I spent a small fortune planting up my window boxes and patio planters with both, thinking I’d give them another shot. They’re already showing a lot of damage on the patio, window boxes still look OK. I didn‘t know the caterpillars would be out this early? Very frustrating. I’m already thinking about getting rid of them. Are they going to eat the calibrachoa as well? I’ve always been more of a perennial person, not so much annuals. Thanks.
