I am curious about the dimensions of this area. I am considering a similar idea with an 42" long area and I am having trouble finding away to fit two two full size items.

It will be a tight squeeze to get a 24" and an 18" in there- in fact not possible unless an all in one unit. I'd recommend using two 18" units with 2" cabinet filler on either side and in the middle- that will ensure each appliance has enough air circulation. This was an all in one unit from U-line- and you can see the fluted filler on each side.
