Can you do a painted dresser set? I don't know your style but perhaps a black or white would work better than trying to 'match' wood tones?

If painted is not you're thing, maybe there is a bit of variation in the tone of the bed, that you can pull from, a darker finish without a lot of variation, to add in the dressers to compliment the bed finish?

that was fast! Thanks for the advice. We found a nice set of dressers and nightstands but the color isn't exact. I am cautious to pull the trigger and purchase because its very expensive and I am terrified to commit to something that I cannot visualize. Any places you suggest I should go for design inspiration or see what you you've mentioned above?

I agree with what Barnes is showing you. Rather than trying to match the wood finish go with a contrast that coordinates nicely. The look is much more up to date and you'll eliminate the risk of a near-miss.

Can you post some photos of the bed please. You need to keep "scale" (size) of the bedside units in scale with the bed. How much room do you have on each side of the bed? You don't have to do two the same. How high is the top of your mattress. These are all things you need to keep in mind. The height of the side cabinets should be 1-2" within the height of the mattress for easy access. Higher is better than lower. Check out "Bachelor Chests". They range a bit bigger than regular night stands.

You could do something like this. Dark wood frame with white door fronts, then a plain white shelf on the narrow side of the bed. A great gold base lamp on this would tie the gold plug in sconce in and you can do bedding that works with everything in the space.

There are other plug in wall sconces that are lower priced.

I would not try to match. Get night stands that coordinate, but do not match the woods exactly. I obviously don't know the style of your home so it's hard to be specific, but get night stands in a different finish ... maybe with metal or mirror details, maybe something black.
