Master bathroom needs help

Looking for a light, clean, airy, farmhouse look in a dated, somewhat “heavy,” but large space.

Obv a new vanity, maybe white trim, light paint color, updated lighting, etc. what do you think?

I would love to get rid of the rectangular box above the vanity & assume the electrical will need to be rewire - anyone with a ballpark est on cost? Other consideration?

The house looks like it's contemporary in style so trying to make it into farmhouse style will make it dated before you even finish. Find a way to work with the style of your house.

In a bathroom like this, doing a few cosmetic changes isn't likely going to help. In fact, you run the risk of highlighting the other dated elements even more. That massive bathtub should be ripped out. It's dominating the bathroom and making it appear way smaller than it is.

You should save up for a full gut

-Get rid of bathtub (or just a smaller one without the platform)

    -Larger shower

    -Bigger vanity

    -Remove the soffit

    -New flooring

Be careful with the farmhouse vibe too as Cpartist said. The architecture is modern so forcing it into farmhouse clothing isn't going to look great. You'll have to do it in subtle ways like using a wood vanity etc.

We're also doing a mb reno-ish. In fact the plumber is here as we speak..But, we will be doing a lot of stuff ourselves.

If I had your bathroom (really, you KNOW a ton has to be done here), I would have someone in to give me an estimate for a remodel. Then I would see what I can do myself. I love my tub, so I would assume yours would stay, but I would rip that one out (myself...after the plumber capped off the water supply) and I would shop for a lovely freestanding one--

The shower looks okay, but probably needs to be tiled. I might postpone that for a year or so as re-doing just the shower it won't affect the rest providing you're keeping size the same.

The vanity, even paint won't save, so get out the sledgehammer again and get rid of it. Same for the soffit. Now this is where it gets a little iffy. The wiring probably comes from the wall and then down. So I would keep my fingers crossed that that is ALL that's up there. It looks like the lights are in the right place, so I would rewire new lights after repairing the drywall myself.

Floor is another issue and one that I think is well worth the payment of having ripped up and re-tiled. Trust me, it's a headache.

So...it depends on your skills. I don't think you'll be happy with a band-aid fix, but there is LOTS that you can diy. Once again, this is if it was my bathroom....your needs/wants will be different.
