Theoretically, you would get similar results. But, you will get some differences depending upon the heritage of each parent. There at gene characteristics that are dominate and recessive. The theory is to lengthy to discuss here.

Looks like there are no simple answers then to my question.. In response to Mr. Ko's comment, I will ask my Chinese speaking neighbor from Shanghai to translate.

I think what Mr Ko is trying to explain is that most hybridisers of Adeniums first select a father (pollen parent) that has the better colour choice....for example a beautiful bright yellow and then breed that with a mother plant (this is the plant that would grow the seed pod) that has for example - double/triple flowers, better flower shape and overall health and vitality so that the resulting offspring is more likely to be a well grown healthy plant with double/triple flowers like the mother with the additional attributes (bright yellow colour) of the father. (There is also much back-breeding that is done to improve on flower colours and multi petal plants)

Another way to explain this - would be breeding two yellows together. Say for instance the mother plant is a “triple light yellow” and the father plant (pollen) is a “single, but rich deep yellow with a bold pink stripe”. What you are hoping for in beeding these two together is the hope that the resulting offspring could have the deep yellow with pink stripe of the father, but also with the double/triple flowers and healthier/better growth form of the mother plant.

There are lots of variables that will come from seed as most of us that grow from seed will know. Seed more likely will produce some offspring, that are ‘like ‘the father plant and some offspring that are ‘like’ the mother plant and the rest of the seedlings may be something completely different, or could be plain pinks or even look like something that had been used in previous crosses to get the colour that you see today. (Note...that I said ‘like’ not necessarily the same as).

In breeding Adeniums for the home grower, your best bet in improving your colours/collection is to breed “like with like”. For instance yellows with yellows, reds with reds etc.
