When I see this on my sour cherries, I don't assume it's disease. I think that some years they just abort a certain percentage of the fruit that they initially set due to some sort of undesirable conditions. Sometimes mine even abort some fruit later in the season; I'm assuming it ends up being drier or something than the tree expected when it set the fruit..it can't sustain all the fruit so it gets rid of some.

That makes me feel better. I was hoping it was something like that. I guess I shouldn't say disease free but more carefree and unlikely to have problems compared to most other fruit trees.

I've found that to be true for the sour cherries in my zone 2b garden. Very low maintenance. But in my case at least, that doesn't always mean they produce well! There are lots of years where they don't love the conditions it seems.

I think my saskatoons are probably the fruit in my garden that seems to produce fairly consistently no matter the year and doesn't have many issues. Still, the cherries are pretty good too and definitely well worth having!

You should get an Evans cherry if you want a good sour cherry tree it’s probably one of the most hardy productive fruit trees in cold regions.

I've thought about getting that tree before after seeing a lot of good things on here about it, but I already have 10 cherry trees. All the romance cherries except for cupid and a Cpl Mesabi, not sure if it would be different enough from them to make it worth taking up more space. I wish I didn't order duplicates of all the cherry trees a few years back when I decided on them, now there's a dozen other trees I want but few spots to put them in my 1/4 acre yard
