Looks very much like a canna lily to me. Those look like the pods that form after the flowers bloom.

Thanks, everyone! The shape is quite different than the much rounder seed pods I have on my canna 'Crimson Beauty' but I guess they must vary from plant to plant. And I never even saw the bloom. I'm going to go back through the pics I took early this spring - see if I can find it. Thanks, again!

I have no idea how this happened... seems like I had a yellow/golden canna years ago that I passed on to my sister almost as soon as it bloomed... I think I had it tucked away temporarily in that spot... can't remember how I first got it or who gave it to me.

I think I'll find a better home for this one in the next week or so.

Oh, I was just coming back to post that it looks just like the yellow cannas my neighbor has. Thanks for the specific ID, Rhonda. I like them because they seem to stay tidier than the red ones with less deadheading.

BTW, hers are just planted in limestone-y sand with mulch and they are close to 6 ft tall, so I'm not sure about the wet feet in the IFAS article.
