Its old enough to flower Matt..just expect the fruits to be the size of hand grenades. Mine were indoors...very sweet. Only took a few bites to eat them.

It takes a large plant to give commercial sized fruit.

I had 2 small ones as Stan said, they grew tiny but sweet. I had a mid sized one last summer that was not so sweet. Currently I have a monster that is fruiting and I suspect it will be commercial size.

Here is an update of it now.. I put in a few apples around the base and a bag over the top . Guess what, the creatures took them!!

Hilarious. I have a burning hatred of squirrels and slugs for that reason. The non value added thieves and destroyers in NYC.

I have started the tops in a jar and they have accidentally sprouted! Has to be an accident because I've tried this a 1000 times with no luck! They are covered in roots and one has a little "bud" coming out where the roots are. NOW WHAT DO I DO!? Lolol help!

You can plant it in a container now with good potting soil.

Do I need to trim of the Brown crunchy stuff? Thank you!

End of October update.

11/27/18

It's been growing slow. The temps hit 28 F inside for 4 hours or more last week. Zero damage after 5 months in ground!

It's winter here... Days only reach 35 to 40 at best. Nights have been getting down to around 25.. My little Guy just stays inside..the little "baby" is taking over the pot finally. I assume the "mother" plant will die away sometime?

Stuck inside for winter... And the "mother" plant is growing like crazy!! Wondering if they each need their own pot??

I don't know much about pineapples.... but if they're like bananas, I'd cut off the baby (at a much smaller size) to allow mother plant to keep growing... and possibly fruit (Did it fruit yet?)... usually the suckers will just grow back if you cut them out.

Now I'm debating weather or not to start growing pineapples xD I can't keep up with soo many plants.... I'll have to get a greenhouse.

For bay areans wanting to know about Pineapples? Mine are still fine. Even with Oxalis around the largest...no rot or leaf color discoloration. In fact,with all the rains they look darker green in what also has been a historically mild winter then they did in summer. 37f was it and we are back to the 50's for lows. 10b winter. Nice!
