We are located in Zone 7a, coastal Massachusetts.

We had several 8-foot ball-and-burlap Nigra Arborvitae trees planted in early September 2017 by a landscaping company.

Unfortunately, we over-watered the trees. One died and a couple dropped clumps of needles by Halloween, creating noticeable bare sections on the mid and lower portions of the trees. While the top sections of the trees now look good, the mid and lower bare sections don't seem to look any better.

What is the best course of action at this point? Are the trees still recovering from transplant shock? Will these bare sections grow back over time? Will shearing or pruning the bare sections cause growth to rejuvenate?
