I was cleaning out the gutters the other day, and noticed that on the garage, in the area behind the gutter, above the siding and below the roof, is visible wood. I hadn't noticed it from standing in the driveway, because it's always in the shade. I'm concerned that this is (or is going to become) a problem due to moisture, insects, and who knows what else!

What do you think? Is this a problem that's going to need professional help, or can I do something simple like slap a coat of water seal on it and keep on keeping on until we do a major garage renovation (years away)?
