solar tube on screen porch

I’m in the process of building a screened porch off our south facing main living room. It will have a very slightly sloped flat roof, rubber roof, (not yet installed but maybe within the next week or so).
Sadly my south facing living room is dark now that the screened porch has been added.

Before we install the rubber roof… I just got the idea of skylights. Or solar tubes. For the porch.
Are solar tubes in the screen porch roof a good solution? I have to make a decision fast. Screen porch dimensions are about 12 feet wide and 20 feet long, only slightly smaller than my living room.

Hi Megan - I did not put solar tubes… I had a lot of needless angst… Everything turned out beautifully as I had originally conceptualize it. Although I now have different furniture in the screen porch, I’m attaching pictures… I will admit I did paint one The south facing walls of my home, the one with all the windows, a dark color… Because I did not want to see anything but window. Take a look!

Here is a photo of the living room windows before the screened porch wasn’t stalled. It was so bright and pretty.

And so you didn’t realize the porch would change all of that beauty? You will need more than one solar tuble to get light into the LR now . What might have been and option is glass panels inthe roof. Bad planning and I look forward to others options.If all the walls of the porch are open with screens that should help with the light too.

I will add this - I am installing a Nanawall between the living room and screen porch so that the screen porch will flow almost seamlessly from the living room when the Nanawall is open. And fortunately the triple sliders in the adjacent dining room open directly to an open deck.

Will the screened porch have attic space above it? Solar tubes have reflective tubes (obviously) connecting the bubble on the roof with the ceiling below. I am having trouble picturing that with a slightly sloped, flat rubber roof. If your living room does not have another floor above it, I would consider installing solar tubes in the living room. We have installed two in our living room and one each in a hallway bath and the garage. They make an amazing amount of difference.
