Help - New Sofas (Too dark?)

I just purchased two sofas, but I'm thinking that I went too dark on the color. Can't return them. How can I decorate around them? (art, pillows, rug, etc). What is a good accent color? Coffee table can go or stay. Also, I plan on getting a new chair to face the fireplace in between the sofas. Thanks.

I would recommend two ideas. Firstly, get a nice piece of art that you like and hang it above the sofa. Visit your local art fairs and find something you can relate to, color wise, and support your local artist. Secondly, you should probably purchase an area rug that will fit the space between the two sofas. The sofa front legs should rest on the rug, so that would give you a size. I'd get a rug that had your basic color with several accent colors in the design. Use those colors to guide your purchase of pillows and especially, the new chair in the accent fabric color. I like your sofas. They are a good start to now add some "bling." Don't forget to add some floor plants which will bring some nature into your room. Good start!

I like your setup w/2 sofas facing each other. Get tweedy or fur (any highly textured) light colored fabrics for pillows. The sofas are large. Are you really going to have that many people seating around at one time? If not, I’d relocate chair. Not only b/c it may be more seating than you need but also b/c the curvy back doesn’t go with modern lines of sofas. The L-shaped arrangement of sofas would also work. I like them facing each other better.

Center the coffee table with the firebox, then pull the two sofas to within 18" or less of the table. If that doesn't feel right, consider using "C" tables instead of the coffee table, and you can pull the sofas back.

When shopping for a rug, consider one that is large enough to slip under the front 1/3 of the sofas for a truly grounding effect in the seating area. It should extend past the ends of the sofas by a foot or more.

I like the sofas. I think the light chair makes the sofas look dark. I would select an area rug, lamps and perhaps 86 the 'Betty Boop' chair.

I would take away that chair, add the area rug, move the sofas to about 15" away from the coffee table and then add narrow console tables behind each sofa with lamps on each.

I like your new sofas color. Here is SW reading colors, so you can go with this palette. I would go with light ones.

Wow! Bravo Beverly! The 3d rug is absolutely match to SW reading colors. :-))

I like the suggestion of placing the sofas in an L shape with one facing the fireplace. If there’s room, you could put a sofa table behind the one facing the fireplace and decorate it with something colorful b

I don't think there is room to place the sofas in an 'L' shape. I don't think that arrangement is an option for this room.

Love 'Beverly's rug to add life to the room! It needs some warm colors and this is perfect. Link to one source for the rug - Addison And Banks Hand Tufted Abr0793 White Ice 8 x 10 Area Rug

Like the sofas color with the fireplace. A few suggestions for rug. Are you painting the walls? Coffee table is nice however a different material to compliment fireplace. Perspective of other areas and connecting spaces to harmonize. Possibly a sofa table and lamps on wall.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I’ve added another picture from a different angle minus the “Betty Boop” chair. I can’t repaint the walls just yet, but the accent colors and tables suggested are helping with ideas. Thanks again.

By the way, I like the Betty Boop comment. I call it my Blues Clues chair in white.

Is it possible to place the sofas in an L formation and place the 2 chairs in the back of the room in front of the windows facing the sofa?

The thing that jumps out to me is the fireplace mantel. IMO it seems too white & bright and overly formal compared to the fireplace. I like the couches. I prefer the rug posted by Selden"s furniture and also... why are the 2 loneley chairs not invited to the party? They seem a little isolated way over there

Agree that the mantle needs to be toned down color wise.

You have been given great advice! The thing I notice is there are no lamps for mid level lighting. If you added four lamps to the room you would notice a huge difference in the space. You have a wonderful room and great furniture.

Ditch the kettle drum and coffee table so you can pull the two chairs into the seating area. Counter balance the fireplace with a tall piece of casegoods on the clock wall.

Great suggestions! I'm just chiming in to say I really like your sofa color and don't think you made a bad choice at all. Definitely get rid of the mantel and the chair, keep the coffee table.

Remove the mantel and lower the TV.

If you want the two chairs on that wall, give them a purpose -- turn them towards each other a bit so they relate to one another in a second conversation space with the option of bringing them into the main space when you have a larger gathering. I like seating arrangements with options. I like the kettle drum, but I think I'd like a table that wasn't so tall. Maybe the chairs are deceiving, but it looks like setting a drink down or trying to use the table for anything would be up around your armpits and really awkward.
