I am planning to start a market garden on some old orchard property. There are two large ponds (2 - 5 acre) on the property, and the area I want to irrigate is on a ridge, above the ponds. There is probably about 100' ft of head / rise from the ponds to the garden area.

I really don't know how to irrigate this land. I was thinking I could use a pump powered by a generator to pump water up the ridge to a holding tank. A drip irrigation system hooked up to the holding tank could then supply the garden with water via gravity. Does this sound feasible? Is there a better solution I am not thinking of. I've thought about digging a well too, but I think that might be cost prohibitive.
