Zucchini Stems Breaking and Zucchini Splitting?

Hello,

I noticed on my two zucchini plants that it seams some stems are breaking off at the base. They appear healthy until they do and I see cracks starting at the base of some stems. I have had issues with SVB and this doesn't appear to be that. I then noticed when I harvested a zucchini the end of it seems to have split.

Could this be caused by excessive rainfall? We had snow longer than usual in MN so May/June has had the rainfall that is usually in April/May.

We have a zucchini plant that is about that same size and i pruned about 30% off because the wind wasn’t very nice to it. After pruning all the lower leaves and any leaves that crossed over others it’s bounced back like crazy and the wind doesn’t harm it anymore.

Yes. Just as with leaf edema or splitting fruit, as the intra-cellular turgidity rises in the stem cells from all the excess water the cell walls rupture, split and die.
