I have Geranium Himalayense planted around many of my roses, and it should be fine. Be aware, however, that this is a spreading perennial...it will creep closer and closer to the roses and compete with them for light and nutrients. I was just ripping some of it out today, and it is not the easiest to pull out (although not the hardest groundcover to pull out either. ) It is pretty in spring, and if it makes it through the heat of summer it is pretty in fall when the leaves turn reddish on the edges. You have to decide if you want to spend a little bit of time each summer pulling it out as it will come right up under the roses.

Vicky, thanks for the info. How close do you let it get to your roses before ripping it out?

I have a lot of roses to tend and not as much time, so usually by this time of year they come right up under the around the roses before I get to them. If the rose is tall/large, it doesn't matter so much, but with the shorter ones they can block the sun and that is not good.
