They look bigger than Festuca 'Elijah Blue' to me, more like blue oat grass Helictotrichon sempervirens, which is a bigger, floppier grass.

I like the blue-star juniper... they will give me the blue i seek and I know they are super hardy and unchanging throughout the seasons.. good idea... thanks

Does the blue oat grass re-seed? there are many new ones popping up in and around these things... I think that is what these are.. I think I will be ripping them out.. they aren't that tidy, which is what I seek... thanks folks

They are a Fetuca. Helictotrichon sempervirens has much broader leaves.

Look at some of the low growing blue foliaged Dianthus as an alternative, which in my garden are a silvery-blue year round. Firewitch has pink flowers, Btilliancy has red flowers, and Greystone has white flowers.

Just looked up the Greystone, NHBabs.. says they bloom from late spring to late summer (Sept??)... after blooms are spent, does it look ratty or drag or does that nice blue foliage continue to look good? Do you deadhead the flowers? Thanks in advance..

My Greystone bloom just once with a rare occasional summer bloom, but I would grow them purely for the foliage even if they never bloomed. I take hedge loppers and just whack off the spent blooms when they are finished. They spread slowly. Brilliancy bloomed all summer (until the voles ate it one winter), and I haven’t grown Firewitch, so hopefully someone else can weigh in on it.

Thanks, Cakbu.. I guess the elijahs are just not my cup of tea... I got quite a few grasses on my property (mostly miscanthus now so not big deal to remove these.. I like the idea of both dianthus and the bluestar... Dianthus is neat because you get flowers for at least some of the late spring/summer..

Just checked out the Dianthus 'Pop Star' and that looks pretty nice too... more of a lavender colored flower... the nursery website I buy from claims they bloom from May to October but I am suspicious of these claims..

Yes, the Elijah Blues I have seen in real life look much more like the ones you have posted than the imagery the online nurseries use. Or at least they seem to turn that way when they returned for me. I eventually shovel pruned the few I had planted in my early days for the same reason.

its the heat i think... we hit high 90s all week... very hot summer so far
