Why do some threads disappear?

Emily, a thread on Home Decorating Conversations, that had about a half dozen supportive comments, recently vanished, and it wasn't deleted by the OP. What can cause that to happen?

Interesting. It was a thread on civility, and was pretty civil. I though flagging addressed on'y individual comments; I didn't realize someone could flag an entire thread.

Personally, I think there is a bug in the process. I've seen perfectly reasonable threads disappear after one post was correctly flagged as spam. That post should have been removed, but the rest of the thread was fine.

Threads that have been reasonably flagged are those where the OP was spam/miscategorized.

I came back on today first time since the 'Update'.

Using laptop w/ Chrome, I've tried FOUR times to post the following at Quilting Forum. I've seen it, reviewed it (I thought) posted & yet it vanishes. I have it up on another tab & made a Comment which appears to have taken, yet the prior thread still doesn't appear at Quilting Forum.

[titled] Insistent Block of Indigo Batiks

    "Hi All & Happy Summer,

I'd been enjoying some folks' posting of recent finishes & working on some of my own; will post those separately.

This block pushed its way into my life this week, even tho' I'd resisted mightily.

This large block simply got in my head & would not stop nagging once I saw the block on Pinterest (thx very much).

This is my FOURTH attempt at making this post.

Combination of Batiks (which I first learned about as a teenager) & Indigo, another old favorite I collect.

I can't see a Submit or Next Button. I think this post is going to disappear again.

This one saved to the Picture Idea Book, not Quilt Forum? Grrrrrrrrrr.

Still can't seem to get this to appear, perhaps a Comment will finalize it. Fingers crossed.

Here's something weird: I noticed that this thread was updated with a 6th comment at about 10:30pm CT. But when I opened the thread, I don't see the 6th comment. What's up?

This morning I have seen several posts that start by saying I posted this before and it disappeared. One sees this occasionally but this morning the numbers were up considerably. Perhaps posters are getting more assertive. Perhaps the number of disappearing posts are up today.

Individual comments can sometimes be flagged for review by other community members. When that happens, they go through the same moderation queue that original posts go through.

Basically a few things could be at play if a post or comment is missing:

    • Poster deleted it
    • It triggered automatic filters and is awaiting review
    • It was flagged by a user and is awaiting review
    • A moderator happened to see it and removed it. (this is rare)

I am at a loss as to why the thread I was inquiring about at the top was deleted. And why some threads I started were immediately deleted. Also, I have a few threads that never appeared at all, no explanation as to why, while others did appear.

Not sure, without a link to be able to reference it. Do you remember the title? I can try to track it down, but it is not likely that I would be able to find it. Sorry about that!
