Philodendron Gloriosum Stem

Hi looking for some experts with some experience with terrestrial Philodendrons. I recently purchased a Philodendron Gloriosum and the woody stem is happily crawling underneath the bottom of the soil.

I would estimate the stem is approx 10-11" long; however, all the leaves and new growth are at the ends of the stem, leaving essentially no growth in the middle.

1. Does anybody know how to encourage growth mid-stem in a crawling philodendron?

2. Has anybody ever cut the terrestrial stem in half? I was thinking about cutting them in half and repotting next to each other, bad idea or good idea?

Thanks guys!
