I’m enjoying this one in a planter box by my front door.

After spending so much time watering the past 2 summers, and having more propagated shrubs taking up space, I did not put as many this year. I need to take some current pics.

I have a good spot on the deck where I grow a few varieties in pots every year. This year's....

Last year in 2017. This is in July.....

By mid-September they really filled out.

It's fun to see all the different varieties Coleus come in.

I miss having to choose between hundreds of gorgeous Coleus! Anyone who lives close enough to Bakers Acres to visit should not take it for granted! No stores like that where I live now.

I bought this one tall and leggy and was late in pinching it. But I think has potential to be beautiful! Just a leaf:

nhl, that small coleus is a slow grower. Mine hasn't changed much, but I'm lucky that it's doing okay. I've never seen one like that yellow of yours with the red veins. Really different.

I think I saw one like that unusual new acquisition of yours. I already had my coleus for this year, but it kept nagging at me that I needed that one, too. I went back a week later and they were all sold out! No wonder. I hope to see how yours grows out.

rouge, I too like your creative containers. So charming on the brick wall and fence you have. ....I hope you don't mind I cheated a bit showing some from 2017. I liked how they filled out last year.

Sandyslopes, I saw that small coleus in part of a display in a fairy garden. I guess being a slow grower is perfect for that. Mine has lost a lot of its leaves. I hope to rejuvenate it. Yours is a very good size. You must be doing something right!

The yellow one with the red veins was a purchase I made at our horticultural meeting. I believe one of the members grows coleus from seed. This was one of a few that were offered for sale.

I know what you mean about filling out. I am really looking forward to seeing some of these in a month or two. Some of them really grow well and put on a nice show by the end of the summer.

I don't either! Yours is doing very well. On closer inspection of my own plants, I discovered that the largest leaf one I have is actually called Kong Mosiac. So that would be related to King Kong?

Nice red one on the bottom and its growing well too. I keep propagating it elsewhere in my garden!

Coleus finder website does not have 'King Kong' as a specific cultivar name that I found just now. (I searched for any name containing the word kong.)

Newhostalady, I just got a 'Kong Mosaic.' I had not had a chance to investigate it yet, but it's just like yours & the leaves are huge! Next time I'm forum'ing from home computer, will add pics.

If I had to guess as to rouge's (name corrected. Sorry! Spell check) under planting for his Kong, it's browallia. Here's the specific plant I think it is.

'rob' is correct ie it is a browalia (sorry 'Tiffany' for the delay in responding to your inquiry).

Tiffany, I would love to see your Kong Mosaic! Some of my plants have grown a lot. I should take a few photos to show you all.

These are coleus that I started from seed and I can’t remember their name. They are thriving beside my east facing front door.

Edenchild, started from seed? Wow, then you've done well with your coleus! I haven't done seeds yet because I don't usually find any seeds worth making the effort for. I find the nurseries have a lot of plant variety in the spring.

New Hosta lady, I have a new garden so more time than money at the moment. I’ve never started coleus from seed before but they worked well. I also started alyssum, dianthus and sweet peas. All were easy and gave me loads of plants.

Tiffany, you have so many coleus. It's a coleus wonderland! You have put together nice arrangements and have so much variety! I am envious!

Edenchild, then you definitely have a green thumb if you have been able to grow all of those from seed! Must be very rewarding.

newhostalady, thank you for the compliment. I think I have more enthusiasm than skill but it was satisfying to get so many plants for less than $10 and a few hours of my time! I’m saving my funds for trees and shrubs at this point - my garden is only about 1 year old.

A garden is full of learning experiences. It is challenging, but rewarding. Now you have a whole new garden to create and dream about, edenchild!

Newhostalady, TYVM! I definitely have fun with Coleus! I'm glad it looks like a wide variety in the pics. I think I only have about 8 different ones, but they can look different in varying amounts of sun.

That's a good point about how different coleus can look in varying amounts of light.

One of my favorite coleus is Mint Mocha. Only thing is I struggle with that one. So this year I didn't find one I could purchase and was left to baby along my leggy one (that I overwintered inside). It has improved, but is still not as nice as it could be. Then I went to visit a friend who had the same coleus in different conditions. Wow, I was shocked to see how different it looked to mine. I will try to get photos to show you. It would be great to have a new thread showing the same coleus in more sun and less sun.

I would love a discussion like that. :+)

This the season when my Coleus start to get HUGE because I stop trimming them to make more.

Wow! BEAUTIFUL! I have a couple beautiful but small coleus in pots, but nothing like these.

I'm having a party Sept 29. Do you think that if I start cuttings now I will have reasonable plants in pots for the party? What about seeds? Thanks!

Seeds won't have time to do much. The cuttings, depends on the size you start with, and your expectation of "reasonable."
