That is excellent news! I am finding far fewer lily beetles this year in Worcester area compared to past years, which I hope I'm not jinxing by saying. Such pretty creatures but soooo destructive.

I occasionally see lily leaf beetles now but not often and I don't see much damage (I do destroy the beetles when I see them). This was very different in the past.

Today I was out by the leach field filling bird feeders when I noticed a spot of red-orange. This was in an area where I see daylilies (Hemerocallis fulva) and sometimes tiger lilies (Lilium lancifolium). Neither are blooming yet (it's shady), so I trotted over and saw this:

I have no idea where this lily came from. I've planted many lilies in the past but most of them succumbed to the beetle during its heyday.

The foliage looks intact. We've definitely turned the corner too here in Plymouth.

I can only hope that this is the case here. I love oriental lilies, but the beetles do also, so I have been planting oriental-trumpet hybrids which have survived well for me as long as the voles don’t eat them. They are planted in wire mesh cylinders, but occasionally a vole gets into the basket and they get eaten.

I have seen one of the two kinds of native lilies we have on the property, Canada lily, though I haven’t seen any wood lilies since before the beetles became common.
