Campobello--wrap around, that is one possibility. What do your land use restrictions allow? What was permitted? From the sliding doors, how far do the permit plans allow you to project a deck? Hopefully, the plans call for enough room to have chairs and a table within the overall scheme? Do your plans include building a roof over any portion of your deck for seasonal use? Do you want stairs to grade? That may be something to consider if you are rethinking your deck configuration. In essence, if you can work within the constraints of your permitted plans, that is best. Thank you. No restrictions on what can be built or size. Plenty of room to build in any direction but hadn't thought to cover any portion but I retesting idea. It's summer only but still an option

Unfortunately, pretty much a cleared lot right now. The house is across the road from ocean so it does have views from upper floors.

You can have a deck like this one but not these steps, to modern for your home. You can have use of the lower part.. Off course you would tone down the material to fit your home . With this deck you don't have to build anything on top , if it gets to hot or rains just go down stairs and enjoy. you can always connect to the bottom sides of this deck for a warp around. Classic shingle style design. Lots of potential. I would have both an open deck as well a a covered porch maybe off to the side. Some shade is always welcome at a beach house. Also possibly a screened in area. I think I would wrap the deck around most of the house and cover part off it for outdoor living.
