I like the idea of a console too!! I thought of yellow or lime, but since your sofa and rug are so neutral, you could really go with any colour you like! It depends on what you have imagined for this room.

You may like a Eames chair floating towards the sofa. They are pricey, but you can get a reproduction for a lot less.

add a tall indoor plant (real) beside that small wall next to your other room. Can you paint your walls? every thing just blends into that small space, I like the idea of a sofa table behind the couch. Switch out the solid color rug with something with designs and lots of other colors.

Yes, any color goes with what you have in the room.

I would not add red or dark red accents.

Any colour would go but i wouldn't use dark colours instead use bright modern colours and some pictures and plants might be good too.

Shades of gold would be nice and I agree with the console behind the sofa. I would love the modern sofa with a touch of ethnic designs like kilim pillows or the popular ikat designs for pillows. Hammered silver lamps would look neat. Soft white curtains at the window perhaps with a woven shade also. Nice for contrast. I love the contrast of texture with shine. coffee table could be driftwood with a glass top.
