Calamondin tree problems

I have a tiny calamondin tree that I purchased last April and it had over 100 blossoms on it. A few of the blossoms lost their leaves, which I know is what is supposed to happen, but the ovary left over or whatever that green thing is that turns into an orange is turning brown between the green thing and the receptacle causing the green would be orange thing to fall off. Why is this happening? I also have some really really tiny green things that are supposed to be green but are completely yellow that just fall off.

Give it a little food; and YES, it is that "tiny"

Give your tree a bit more time to grow and it will keep the fruits. Tiny trees are not strong enough to produce fruits.

The tree is aborting fruit that it cannot support; it is a natural thing. Do not worry; as the tree gets larger and stronger, it will keep the fruit. Calamondins are really easy to deal with.

It’s not that tiny, I guess. I think it’s about 3 years old. Oh and some of the leaves are a very light green.

Okay well I have more questions. So how do I get rid of the aphids and the spiders? I pretty much showered the thing in neem oil. Also, those are the yellow ones I was talking about and the green healthy ones for comparison.

Also what fertilizer should I use? Awhile ago I got some Dr. Earth organic fruit tree fertilizer from Home Depot and Sprinkled it on top and then watered it. It made a crusty layer on top which got moldy and so I replaced all of the dirt and have been afraid to use anything.

Osmocote plus is a good fertilizer. Mix in with the top soil layer. And foliage pro with every watering. Neem oil should have taken care of the insects (unfortunately with the benneficial insects too) I have lots of lady bug larvae that take care of aphids. I think a healthy well nourished tree will be able to withstand some pests. Towards fall and winter is when you really want your tree free of any insects before you bring it in the house.

Emily That mold was the fertilizer breaking down. If you had scratched the fertilizer into the soil rather than just applying it to the top, you wouldn't have seen the fertilizer breaking down. I use Jobes Organic Fruit and Citrus or Epsoma Citrus Tone fertilizers too and I have seen the mold. It is normal. All organic fertilizers do this. I use the organic granular fertilizer monthly because I get lots of rain and the Osmocote Plus. The Osmocote is good because it has necessary minerals that other fertilizers don't. Foliage Pro is very good, but it's pricey. I just applied fish emulsion to all my trees about 3 weeks ago now and it has a lot of nitrogen in it so the leaves turned a nice dark green. The nitrogen helps promote green leaves and new growth. You can use the fish emulsion in conjunction with other fertilizers, but I do not recommend applying it whenever you apply a different fertilizer. It may cause other issues. Wait a couple of weeks in between applications.

About aphids... you must control the ants. If you have aphids, you have ants; and if you do not control the ants, you WILL have aphids. The aphids themselves are easily controlled; you can simply wash them off, if you wish.

I have ants but don't have aphids or scale. Ants are just a part of life down here in the South.

Look closer, or farther away. If you have aphids on citrus you DO have ants.
