Your bed appears to be a beige tone. Make the nightstands, the same tone as your bed upholstery. Make the tops the same tone as your walls. Your other choice would be stained all but the top, and I bet you could find some either formica applied to the wood top, or granite top or faux marble that would match your upholstered bed tone almost perfectly, even if it had a small speckle of creams in it, and that would be very nice.....no worry about glass water stains! ;D My other option offer would be to have them be floating tables off the floor, mounted to the wall, that are the same color as the walls, with one drawer in each of them. And have glass cut to lay on the top of each of them... With your lamps on the wall, you don't need a large surface and it would sure look designer with that style. The main thing is to get the measurements exactly proportional to the space. IE the would be best in a rectangular shape, with the length against the wall greater than the depth into your room. It's easy to make them a size that just looks very awkward if mounted.
