Blazing Saddles is well budded here this year and at regular height. Nordic Soul looks like a big and elaborate flower--a Pierce evergreen, not surprising. How in general have your Holley cultivars performed?

With these temperatures it really separates the men from the boys in the daylily department. Over 95, if a daylily still looks decent (and just decent will do) by the end of the day, it's a winner in my book........To me the first picture gets the Grand Prize. What a lovely combination of reds. I don't remember Melee before, but then you have such a wide selection of reds that I'm sure I just missed it..........Maryl

Great blooms for the Fourth of July! Nordic Soul grabs my attention. My other top picks include Abilene Lillian, Judy’s Jewel, and Blazing Saddles.

Mantis - I lost several Holley intros in the past. They are beautiful flowers but not that hardy. Innocent Discovery is the best of the lot. Its scapes are only an inch or two from being registered height, and it has 11-13 buds this time. I've had Judy's Jewel for three years, almost losing it in a pot the first winter when it died back to one tiny fan. Where I originally had JJ planted, it wouldn't grow at all. Now Judy's Jewel is planted in a sheltered place, next to the house. Scapes this year are abouot 22 inches, a bit taller than they were last year. The flowers are 7 inches and gorgeous. I got no increase on fans last year. It's still a double fan. Bud count this year is 10-12. The Holleys sold their business a couple of years ago, and I haven't seen the buyer, a woman named Teresa B, put any intros on the Lily Auction in the last year.

Debra: I have never grown a Holley and have always wondered how they performed. I don't see many from my northern rust free suppliers so that probably indicates how well they do up there. Interesting information......Maryl

Great photos but reading about your temp and heat index makes me sweat. I'm surprised you stepped outdoors.

Julia - I went out to week at 6:30 this morning, and later too just a few photos just before 8:00. By 9, it was getting really humid and uncomfortable.

Maryl - The main reason I bought Judy's Jewel was to cross with former Valentine Sweetheart. It's in the same color class, but larger. So the fact it doesn't multiply much and isn't very tall isn't important to me. It's a big fader too, where former VS holds its color much better. I'm trying to get a taller Val. Swhrt with a bloom size of 7 inches or more. I have some buds on JJ, but I don't know if they'll make it in this heat. I've also crossed it with Dancing Flamingo both seasons.

They are so pretty. Melee is my favorite; very striking. I haven't seen Sangria with Mia yet. Did I miss it or is it yet to come?

Beautiful! I think Abilene Lillian, Melee, and Judy's Jewel are my favorites today.
