What Stain for Butcher Block

"We" would like to stain (my wife wants to stain) a new butcher block countertop that will not be used for food prep. We are both chemically sensitive and do not want to go the Waterlox etc. route, so we are choosing a more natural finish. We will be using AFM Safecoat Oil Wax for the finish and was wondering what brand solvent based non-sealing stain could be used?

Since I have never heard of that product, I researched and found it is basically linseed and other oils mixed with several waxes.Basically, you will need to do testing on several pieces to find the best stain. I'd suggest a water or alcohol based stain to eliminate most of the VOC problems.

There are some cautions to be followed when using this kind of finish. Those are listed in the manufacturers instructions here.
