Too bad you aren’t a fan of hemerocallis, it’s the perfect solution. If you are thinking of those orange ditch lilies or those small yellow ones you see in spring you are missing a lot. So many beauties. I suggest you check out the daylily forum just to have an idea about what could work for you. Over thirty thousand registered varieties with different bloom times through the season.

Have mostly Allium 'Purple Sensation' planted mostly towards the back of mixed perennial borders. Always deadhead it after blooming and cut all the leaves and dead stems off soon thereafter; latter because of shading other perennials as well as looks.

Usually have taller perennials in front of it (e.g. summer-flowering garden phlox and fall-flowering New England asters). Still, do count on getting rid of the leaves and stems quickly.

Off deck: New England aster immediately in front (last June 9). In our case, blooming at a slow flowering time is the main reason to have these alliums.

Peonies, Nepeta, and midheight perennial Geraniums do a good job in my garden of hiding spent foliage. I like leaving the Sputnik seed heads, but I do remove the spent foliage as soon it is loose enough to do so.

I have mine interplanted with Shasta daisies and that seems to work well. I don’t trim anything. Others are planted with columbines; the columbines bloom right after and keep their foliage for a good long time, hiding any ugly bulb leaves.

I plant them with orange-red oriental poppies and white iris. I never see any allium foliage.

I have white lychnis coronaria around mine. This is a heavy re-seeder so not for a very tidy garden. But it does fill in around the yellow allium foliage. Then I also have echinacea and helenium that grow tall later.
