WashSmart Washer

Hello, Dadoes. I hope you are still here shedding knowledge on F&P products. Unfortunately, I am having to give up on our 11 year old EcoSmart washer (a bit of a story) and we have a WashSmart on order. One question I have is based on comments that I have found on the internet, that there is no hot water selection. You had a sequence that I programmed for the EcoSmart as a Favorite. Is there something like that for the WashSmart?

WashSmart runs full tap-hot on the Allergy cycle. Allergy also has two deep/agitated rinses. You can start on Allergy to fill for a load (set a manual water level), then Pause and change to a different cycle (set the same manual water level level before Start).

There's a known "glitch" on WashSmart in that spin stops briefly and restarts in the spin period after wash (before rinse) so liquid fabric softener (if the dispenser is used) essentially is wasted due to premature release. This happens even if the Softener Rinse option is selected. It's a mystery why F&P programmed the operation to do that.

I should also clarify ... the current WashSmart model doesn't have a Favorite cycle option or a programmable/specific "machine cleaning" cycle (which is the hot-fill workaround on your GWL11). The recommendation for cleaning the machine is to use the Allergy cycle with product for that purpose or a double-dose of detergent. Regular use of chlorine bleach is good for avoiding mold in any washer.

Thanks for your reply. I have already downloaded the WashSmart manual in advance so I see how a hot water sequence is available. I regret that we are disposing of our GWL15, it is a wonderful DIY washer. But with a leaking water pump my wife does not want me getting on the floor any more under a flipped over washer (old age worries). The local man spotted a slit hose and that the main board was not correctly responding to diagnoses. Recommended getting a new one. Not my arguable decision but I differed to hers. What is the reputation of the WashSmart (I stuck with the agitator model, the local man said that is a good choice, to avoid the one with the knob)?

Back again. The F&P WashSmart was installed today. Works fine. First impression by my wife is that it does not look like the previous model and in matching to the F&P top loading dryer. I told her that the daily operational routine will be about the same and that the features will be the same (high speed spin dry even a bit better). But one thing shocked me, the site of manufacture, Thailand. Well, with the Haier takeover of F&P and GE Appliance, not surprising. But my original washer came from Ohio (I believe a deal with Whirlpool). I just signed up for the 5 year promotional warranty. Regards.

F&P had a manufacturing facility in OH for a couple years. I think it was somewhat to benefit WP when they began using the F&P motor and floating-basket design for the KM Oasis and WP Cabrio machines. WP still uses the motor design for higher-end TLs (but with modifications to the drive system), and pretty much all brands (WP, LG, Samsung) use the motor design now for FLs.

The current WashSmart operates pretty much identically to older F&P TLs, although there are some design changes "under the hood" on individual components.

As I mentioned above, they programmed it to pause briefly during the first spin, then start spinning again ... even when the Softener Rinse option is selected. That causes liquid fabric softener (if used) to release prematurely out of the agitator-mounted centrifugal dispenser and largely get wasted down the drain when spin and the pump restart before the rinse fill. Best results with fabric softener is by selecting Softener Rinse but adding it manually when the rinse fill starts.

Thanks again, Dadoes. I looked again at the label. It says "Assembled in Thailand". I wonder where the parts came from. F&P has a two year warranty but I have signed up for a F&P website promotional warranty for a total of 5 years.
