I wouldn't put the TV above the fireplace unless you enjoy neck pain. Try putting it in the cut out with a low console beneath it.

yes, fill in that nook. or, do some built in cabs and hang the tv above the fireplace. (after you redo it). While you''re moving things around and painting, can you relocate that light switch off to the left? it's in the middle of the wall. very odd place for it. (who does that?!)

and the green/gray on the wall is just unfortunate. i hope you're doing a better color.
