Is there something tricky about that particular model? I have 30” Thermador ovens in my IKEA sektion cabinets, and no issues.

Thank you for posting this! I am trying to plan my kitchen and plan on buying a microwave/oven combo that is not Ikea, and I noticed their 90" cabinets have a shelf between the two. So did you just not use that and inserted the micro/oven on top if the bottom shelf in one piece?

The Ikea tall cabinets all have a shelf included with them - this is partly because for an 80" or 90" high cabinet the sides will tend to want to bow outward due to their own weight/flexibility if there were just the top/bottom cross pieces - but there is a good bit of leeway in where you actually have to put that interior shelf. In our case it is right at the 60" mark - allowing room for the 30" tall doors above the oven.

The oven itself is actually sitting on a UTRUSTA reinforced ventilated shelf - which is what the appliance installer then put the 1/2 inch shims on to set the height exactly where we wanted it.

The reinforced shelf is held in with metal brackets and extra screws - it is rated to hold up to 150kg (330 pounds)

I believe the cabinet config that you are talking about is one that has a separate shelf for a microwave over a built-in wall oven. If you are looking to by a third-party combination oven, you need to essentially buy the configuration Ikea would sell for a single wall oven - and figure out which doors/drawers/trim you want or need above and below the oven. If you are doing the configuration yourself in the Ikea planner or working in store with someone make sure that you take all the measurements and check them twice - and then again.

I spent hours on the configuration of our oven cabinet - especially since we were going with Semihandmade doors/drawer fronts and I knew I couldn't just run down to the store and exchange parts if I got it wrong.

I served as kitchen designer on our whole-house renovation and the MOST nervous I was the whole time was when we were getting to finally install the oven and put the fronts on that cabinet.

Yes, I was looking at the 90" cabinets that are designed for the wall oven and microwave combo, so I was thinking I could just eliminate that middle shelf and add in fillers if needed. So you purchased the cabinet for a single oven and just got shorter top doors to allow for the extra space? This is so much help, I definitely plan to buy appliances that are not ikea and don't want to spend 3k for it to not fit!

I've done this many times using Miele or Wolf but all models are different. You need a shelf between the two for the microwave to sit on. Depending on the placement you can get it to work out with just an 1/8" gap between the two and not see the shelf. You really need to have the appliances there to figure this out because any directions I could find didn't help. It all depends on the height you are setting them at and if you are going custom doors or if you use ikeas with a filler. I did do a Bosh combo that came as a one piece stack and that didn't need a shelf but did reinfonce bottom shelf for the weight .

Jdesign, the Samsung model being discussed is an integrated model that is attached, so they don’t need a shelf between them. Like Kristi I came here to see what someone who had the same model would do who didn’t need the middle shelf would do.

Jdesign_gw: really like the kitchen! Which Bosh model did you choose as oven wall unit? Would you recommend it?
